About
A brand with history
Barbot was born in Porto in 1920, in the aftermath of World War I, with a factory located in Santo Ildefonso (Porto), by the hands of Diogo Barbot. Thus, a family-oriented company emerged, with a traditional image, for which rigor, safety and quality were fundamental characteristics. All graphic material and packaging at the time were marked with the initials of its founder – DB.
Founded in 1920, Barbot is today a reference in the Portuguese market in interior decoration and renovation.
In the following years, Barbot would assert itself in the market. In 1958, under the responsibility of Carlos Aires Pereira, a new factory was built in Laborim and four years later, in 1962, already under the administration of Zaida Barbot, daughter of the founder, the best known paint of the brand and current sales leader, Barbot Dioplaste, was born.
The violent fire of 1981, which destroyed the entire Santo Ildefonso factory, would indisputably mark the history of the brand. It is at this moment that a new cycle begins, not only at the level of administration, which is now led by Carlos Barbot, son of Zaida Barbot, but also at the structural level. Barbot began its expansion, with the transfer in 1982 of the facilities from Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, and developed a policy of acquisitions and partnerships that contributed to strengthening the brand and expanding its offer.
As a result of this strategy, in the mid-80s, the company had a reinforced commercial team, capable of covering the country from North to South (the first Barbot delegation appeared in Évora in 1987), its own logistics fleet and a greater production capacity.
Throughout the 1990s, Barbot continued to expand, continually launching new products. This expansion culminated in the quadrupling of warehouses and the opening of a new factory in Canelas in 2002, providing Barbot with a nationwide field of coverage composed of modern infrastructures, equipped with the most advanced technology, and a high capacity for responsiveness and competitiveness.
Currently, Barbot is present from North to South of the country, with two factories located in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, a wide network of resellers and 21 own points of sale. But the brand does not live only on the national market. Today the Barbot Group sells its products in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Angola and Cape Verde.
We believe that paints, colors and technology are instruments of individual expression, of expression of taste and will, of transformation and creation. The house is a place for new visions.
At Barbot we believe that the home is a privileged space of comfort and quality, that it is a place of change and creativity.
The company and the Barbot brand seek to inspire, give strength and be closer and closer to this new vision of space. We provide the medium, the colors, the textures and the technology that will transform this great canvas that is the house.
Barbot is quality and innovation, supported by good relationships with customers, employees and suppliers. Over the years, the constant respect for these goals and principles has made Barbot a safe and reliable company, with a consistent project.
Today, it is our will to continue to invest in an increasingly close relationship with our interlocutors, with their day-to-day desires and needs. We want to continue to develop in our company a logic of permanent dynamics and investment in the best technologies and products.
The Barbot brand is distinguished by its strong positioning in interior decoration, which involves a focus on design and creativity, reflecting decoration trends.
A Barbot ink is much more than its color. It is everything that transmits, everything that inspires. It is an infinite movement of emotions.
In recent years, Barbot has been gaining a brand perception that actively participates, enhances and leads the changes in the house. By associating itself with the change in environments and decoration, the Barbot brand has been evolving from the sphere of the product (the functionality of paint) to a more emotional sphere associated with the universe of decoration.
The brand thus begins to live in the universe of people’s emotions and aspirations, through a trend that stirs very rich and very strong feelings.
To tangible values are added emotional values. Because a Barbot paint reflects much more than its color. It aims to be aspirational and inspiring. Because people can live in houses. But houses also live in people. And a house without color is a house without emotion.
Signature “New emotions”
The signature “New Emotions” capitalizes on a concept of great involvement. It is associated with decoration, appreciation, vanity and even narcissism in the house. It is a true return to the home that is a source of pride, the home that concentrates attention, investments and emotions.
The house is a living being, in permanent change. It is the mirror of each one of us in motion, the projection of our states of mind. It is the free space for taste. The canvas there at hand.
Barbot is the brand that specializes in creating new emotions, in the new experiences of the house. The house as an emotional investment, the house as a proposal for improvement and endless change.
Barbot has increasingly invested in innovative, ecological and value-added products, investing in technology and in the research and development of solutions that respond to the true needs of customers.
We assume Research and Development as a strategic area of the group.
As such, we have a Research and Development Department equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, through which technically specialized personnel efficiently ensure the design, formulation and development of new products.

The Quality Policy of the company BARBOT – Indústria de Tintas S.A. is based on 3 main vectors:
“Doing it right the first time”
“Making the best products at the best prices”
“Quality belongs to everyone”
At Barbot, quality is more than a goal. It is a concept present in the company’s daily life, from the selection of raw materials to the after-sales service.
The Certification
Quality, safety and service continue to be, along with product development, fundamental aspects where we have been gaining the lead.
In 1991, the Total Quality Program was implemented, having obtained the NP EN ISO 9002 Certification in 1994. In 2001, Barbot was distinguished with the Safe Work award, which recognizes the commitment made to the creation of excellent Hygiene and Safety conditions for its employees.
Also in after-sales service, where quality requires proximity to the customer, Barbot has set up a national technical consulting structure. In 2003, the company achieved the highest degree of quality, obtaining the Certification according to the ISO 9001 standard.
Environmental Policy
For Barbot, the quality of products is inseparable from quality and the responsibility of environmental policies.
Barbot is committed to respecting and preserving the environment through an environmental management policy.
In this field, Barbot aims to eliminate the negative impacts on the environment resulting from its activity, through the production and development of products that are not aggressive to the environment, the treatment of industrial waste and the reduction of the emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Barbot sees environmental management as a strategic factor for the optimization of its advantages in the market.
The Barbot logo is the brand’s first point of contact for its audiences, partners and customers. Tampering with it harms the way the brand is perceived and communicated, so the logo should always be reproduced consistently and according to a set of rules.
Brand protection
To ensure the uniformity of these elements, we present here the logo and rules manual of the Brand. These supports are the property of Barbot and may not be used without our express authorization.

General Conditions of Sale
Scope of Application
The commercial relations between BARBOT – INDÚSTRIA DE TINTAS, S.A. (BARBOT) and any entity that acquires its goods and/or services (CLIENT) are regulated by these General Conditions of Sale. These General Conditions of Sale are always an integral part of any agreement from which the acceptance of an order by BARBOT arises.
The CLIENT hereby acknowledges these General Conditions of Sale, considering, in any case, that they have been understood and accepted in full and without reservation by the CLIENT.
These General Conditions of Sale revoke any others previously established, and BARBOT reserves the right to change these General Conditions of Sale without prior notice, which will always appear on its website updated in https://barbot.pt/sobre/ General Conditions of Sale tab.
Goods
BARBOT guarantees the conformity of its products in accordance with the technical specifications contained in the respective technical data sheets, so their application must be carried out in compliance with what is described therein.
In addition, and under the terms of Directives 2010/75/EU and 2004/42/EC, express mention is made of the fact that products identified with the marking:
These can only be used, without restrictions, in activities carried out in registered and authorized installations for this purpose, and their use in small installations is limited to coatings that do not concern any components for buildings, under the terms of the Law.
Thus, BARBOT is not responsible for a deficient or illegal use of its products, and the CLIENT is entirely responsible for the consequences of any improper use.
The CLIENT understands and acknowledges that the images of BARBOT’s products presented by them in the most diverse ways, namely in their catalogues, are merely illustrative, so that, in relation to the actual products, there may be variations in colour, content and/or packaging design resulting from their sample and display via online. In this way, for an exact match, the CUSTOMER can go to a BARBOT physical store in order to consult the products.
BARBOT reserves the right, at any time, to withdraw any product from the market, without prior notice and without any rights whatsoever to the CLIENT.
Prices
Supplies will be invoiced according to the prices contained in the Price List in force at the date of invoicing. VAT is levied on these prices at the rate in force. Prices are adjustable at any time without dependence on any prior notice by BARBOT.
BARBOT may, at a given time/business, without any type of obligation or liability, grant Special Offers, Promotional Discounts or other justified discounts, under legal and/or contractual conditions.
Payment Terms
Unless otherwise agreed in writing with BARBOT, the rule is that of immediate payment upon physical availability of the ordered products.
The payment methods are: direct debit, cheque, bank transfer, ATM or cash, under the terms of the law.
The CLIENT who has entered into an Annual Commercial Agreement with BARBOT and whose agreement is in force at the time, may ask BARBOT to open a current account for credit supplies. In case of approval (exclusive and discretionary decision of BARBOT), in this annual agreement the terms and limits of credit will be defined, as well as the payment terms to be practiced, which may change according to the average monthly volume of purchases and forms of payment.
Failure to pay within the established period, payment made by cheque without provision or the full use of the credit granted, will result in the immediate, temporary or definitive suspension of the execution and delivery of orders or parts of open orders, as well as the immediate maturity of all other outstanding credits in the name of the CLIENT, without prejudice to the right to debit interest at the applicable legal rate, to obtain the competent judicial collection and other rights that may be entitled.
If facts and/or circumstances occur that lead to a justified fear by BARBOT regarding the quality of the CLIENT’s creditworthiness and credibility, as well as its failure to comply with obligations on time, BARBOT reserves the right to suspend sales and respective deliveries of products on credit, as well as to demand advance payments or adequate guarantees of payments receivable.
The occasional acceptance of a delay in one or more payments does not imply a change in these General Conditions of Sale, nor in the credit and payment conditions assigned to the CUSTOMER.
Any change to the established conditions will only be effective if it is contained in a written document signed by both parties.
Orders and Deliveries
Orders may be placed by the CLIENT through email, EDI system and telephone, provided that they are later confirmed in writing. Whenever possible, the order should be made through a numbered document with the CLIENT’s header.
Orders will only be valid once they have been formally accepted, and BARBOT reserves the right not to supply, whether for reasons of commercial, financial or logistical conditions, any order that has not been accepted.
The products are supplied in the minimum sales quantities, or in multiples, as indicated in the Price List in force. Orders that do not match the minimum sales quantities, or multiples, will be rounded up to the nearest multiple.
BARBOT operates under the “pending” regime. In the event that an order is not fully satisfied, the missing part does not need a new order and is automatically sent as soon as it is available. The CLIENT may request, in writing, the opposite procedure.
In the case of orders with the same delivery date, an administrative fee will be charged for orders whose sum of the lines is less than €200.00, and BARBOT reserves the right to refuse delivery of part or all of the order. To the orders of mortars, transport costs are added according to the table posted at the beginning of each year. In situations of special or urgent transport, an additional fee may be charged for transport.
Delivery times depend on the type of products, stock availability and responsiveness in terms of transport.
The unloading of the products is carried out by the CUSTOMER and the driver must prepare the vehicle in advance. Any other service (including, for example, the imposition by the CLIENT on the driver of an excessive wait in relation to the dates and times of unloading on the transport document) will be considered as an ancillary service subject to an autonomous remuneration.
The CUSTOMER must ensure the conditions of access and unloading, placing orders that do not conflict with the limitations of the location, such as the restriction of access to heavy vehicles, ramps, stairs or any other type of physical or legal impediment that constitutes a barrier to the delivery of orders. BARBOT does not assume any damage or loss resulting from unloading in unsuitable places, such as unloading on ramps, stairs or any other that constitutes a risk to physical and material integrity.
The pallets that support the products, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, are the property of BARBOT. With each shipment, the number of pallets sent to the CLIENT is recorded, and the balance between pallets sent by BARBOT and pallets returned by the CLIENT is periodically calculated. The missing part will be invoiced at the unit value of 15 euros. It is thus intended to ensure the circularity of materials, in line with BARBOT’s environmental sustainability policy
For more detailed information on the processing of orders and deliveries, please consult the “Supply Rules”, available on this same Barbot website (Terms & Conditions), in the B2B Supply Rules tab or by requesting Customer Service.
Order Reception
At the time of delivery, the customer must examine the order in order to verify its good condition and compliance with the respective order and the delivery note. To prove the aforementioned compliance, the CLIENT must sign the carrier’s guide.
BARBOT assumes damages resulting from the transport provided that they are communicated in writing, immediately and in the transport document and communicated to BARBOT within a maximum period of 5 working days. Otherwise, BARBOT will consider that the CLIENT has received and accepted the order as delivered.
Warranty
BARBOT guarantees the quality of its products in accordance with the respective technical data sheets. The information presented in the technical sheets is the result of laboratory tests and is merely indicative.
BARBOT’s products are semi-finished products, so the final result depends on factors that are not controllable by Barbot, namely surface preparation, environmental conditions, application conditions, etc. BARBOT’s sales representatives may give non-binding suggestions for the application of the products, which do not imply any type of monitoring or inspection of the work.
BARBOT’s duty of warranty does not exist in cases that result from misapplication, inappropriate or incorrect use of the product, fortuitous or force majeure. Likewise, the warranty expires if there is an unauthorized attempt to repair the product and/or if there is a change in its structure, components or mode of operation. In this case, in addition to the loss of warranty, BARBOT will not be responsible for the incorrect and/or non-conforming use of the product by the CLIENT.
Complaints
Customer “Consumer”
Under the terms of the Law in force, and for commercial and technical assistance purposes, BARBOT will consider the CLIENT as a “Consumer” to whom goods or services intended for non-professional use are supplied.
The “Consumer” CUSTOMER, whenever he believes that there is a lack of conformity of the product, must communicate this situation to BARBOT, in writing and attaching his purchase invoice, within a maximum period of two months from his knowledge. Once this communication has been made, BARBOT will evaluate the specific situation, taking into account all legal obligations and those arising from these conditions of sale, responding to the CUSTOMER accordingly.
Other Clients
Under the terms of the Law in force, BARBOT will only accept complaints of possible non-conformity of its products from CUSTOMERS to whom a document proving the sale of their products by BARBOT has been issued.
Complaints must be placed in writing, in the CLIENT’s own document, with a header and with the contacts of the people involved. Preferably, and whenever possible, the complaint of any lack of conformity of the product can be made by the CUSTOMER at the time of delivery/receipt of the product. When this is not possible, the complaint must be made within 8 days of becoming aware of it, without ever exceeding the legal deadlines for exercising the respective rights. If the CLIENT does not respect these deadlines, his right will expire and he will no longer be able to invoke it in any situation.
Any complaint regarding a BARBOT product will have to be handled by a technical-commercial assistance. The measurement and repair of product non-conformities in accordance with the BARBOT warranty will be carried out by elements of the BARBOT Technical Department.
For the purposes of technical assistance, under the terms of the Law in force, BARBOT will consider as a “Final Consumer” the one to whom products or services intended for non-professional use are supplied.
The final decision regarding any complaint will always belong to BARBOT’s Sales Department. If the decision is negative, a written response will be given to the CLIENT, explaining the reason. If the decision is positive, BARBOT will only accept responsibility for the replacement of the product technically recognized as non-conforming with an equal quantity of the same product or the return of the price already paid for the merchandise known to be defective, not accepting other responsibilities for any other losses or damages.
Returns
Returns are only admissible in the event of a complaint granted by BARBOT, always requiring a prior written agreement, accompanied by a return note issued by the customer on the Tax Authority platform that identifies the product and quantity, as well as the purchase document number.
BARBOT does not accept returns of custom-made products, namely products tuned to the color or identified as being Products on request, duly marked in the Price List as follows:
Industrial Property
BARBOT is the full owner of all intellectual and/or industrial rights of its products, equipment, components and other items sold and/or used in its activity, including commercial, technical or any other documentation. BARBOT will not grant any industrial property rights over any of its products, even when they have been specially developed at the request of a particular CLIENT. Under penalty of civil and/or criminal prosecution, it will be forbidden for any entity or person outside BARBOT to use or reproduce, in whole or in part, trademarks, designs, models, patents, or other elements that are the subject of BARBOT’s intellectual or industrial property. For the purpose of communicating and promoting BARBOT products, customers may only use materials (images, videos, technical sheets, etc.) that have been provided and/or pre-approved by BARBOT.
Processing of Personal Data
The processing of personal data carried out by BARBOT complies with current data protection legislation, namely Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (“General Data Protection Regulation”) and other applicable EU and national legislation. Without prejudice to the provisions of the previous paragraph, any dispute may be dealt with within the scope of the Alternative Resolution of Consumer Disputes, and the CLIENT may resort to existing entities, namely: Information and Arbitration Centers for Consumer Disputes of Vale do Ave; Cávado Valley; Harbor; Coimbra; Lisbon; Algarve or Nacional (email: geral@cniacc.pt), whose contacts can be made available at https:/www.consumidor.gov.pt/parceiros / sistema-de-defesa-do- consumidor/entidades-de-resolucao-alternativa-de-litigios-de-consumo/ral-mapa-e-lista-de-entidades.aspx or at www.arbitragemdeconsumo.org, or via telephone +351 213 564 650.
