Spotting imperfections after painting can be frustrating, but it doesn’t always mean a tedious complete refinish. In this guide, we share the thoughts and considerations of our Painter Luís.

There are some situations that will make it incredibly difficult to achieve an effective refinish, so consider these details before deciding whether or not to repaint.

Temperature

  • If the temperature is 10°C colder or warmer than during its initial application, the brightness of the retouched area may be affected, so try to paint in similar environmental conditions;

Coating color

  • Darker colors are generally more difficult to touch up than lighter colors;

Substrate porosity

  • Any newly damaged and filled areas will absorb the touch-up coat at a different rate than the surrounding areas previously painted. This can result in variations in color and brightness;

Brightness level

  • Variations in the way the painted surface reflects light are significantly more noticeable with high-gloss paints;

Ink Batch

  • In general, it’s a good idea to save some paint for touch-ups. We rigorously test the paint for color consistency and finish, but slight differences in qualities may still appear between different batches, so it’s best to be prepared safely.
