How to paint a wall?
Prepare your walls and work area.
Many of us would like to eliminate the preparation phase and go straight to adorning the walls with the chosen colour, but it is a key step to achieve a good result.
Before you begin:
- Moves all furniture and accessories to the center of the room and covers with sheets;
- Remove items that are fixed to the wall and fill in all holes and cracks (you can use our finishing clay);
- Once dry, sand the filling until the wall is smooth and even;
- Insulates outlets, switches and handles and covers with smooth tape;
- Apply (if necessary) a primary – You don’t know if to use it, go to the Decision Matrix;
- Open the can and stir the chosen paint color well to distribute the pigment evenly. Pour about 2.5 cm of paint into a container that is easy to hold;
- Dip the brush into the paint. It starts at the top of the wall and paints a frame (about 5 cm wide) around all edges of the wall, from top to bottom.
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for – Paint!
- Your painting technique should combine constant pressure with the movement of the roller up, down and transversely until it covers each area evenly.
What type of roller should I use?
For our water-based paints, we recommend a medium-pile roller, suitable for applying paint to both walls and ceilings.
Tip: If you need a break or are waiting for the first coat to dry, prevent the roll from drying out by wrapping it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
- Apply a second coat of paint;
With most paint colors, and especially when using dark colors on a light-colored wall, we recommend two to three full coats.
